When Space Patrolman Nick Nelson of the Space Patrol and his Martian gunner, Kodi, go after a Mercurian, they encounter a Vulkite sent by the Mercurian to confront them. The Space Patrol officers kill the attacking Vulkite with their "atom-needle guns" that pierce its "heat-hardened hide" and blast the creature from within.
