Origin[]
Wash is a bespectacled bumbler who started out as a clerk running a grocery store. After some weeks, he left his job, joined a circus, then was lured into treasure hunts and exotic locales. After an adventure in Polynesia in which he made and lost a fortune, adventures followed in which he fell afoul of his recurring arch-enemy, Bull Dawson.
Wash is something of a bungler, physically rather small in stature and not especially strong or skilled in combat, always a little out of his depth when things get dangerous. Despite his disadvantage, he is ambitious, energetic, prone to getting into scrapes, and often motivated by adventure, treasure, and romance (lots of dames).
Tubbs had several quarrelsome companions until he met Captain Easy, a tough, taciturn Southerner with a mysterious past. Although Wash started as the main character, over time Captain Easy became more central as the strip evolved to become more action-heavy and adventure-oriented.
