William Wallace was a Scottish knight and key leader in the First War of Scottish Independence. He gained fame for defeating the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge (1297), served briefly as Guardian of Scotland, and was defeated at the Battle of Falkirk (1298). Captured in 1305, he was executed by Edward I. Wallace is remembered as a symbol of Scottish resistance and freedom, commemorated by monuments like the Wallace Monument near Stirling.
