Origin[]
Zachary Taylor, the 12th U.S. president, was a career military officer who became a national hero in the Mexican–American War, earning the nickname “Old Rough and Ready.” Despite vague political views and little interest in politics, he was elected president in 1848 as a Whig, becoming the first president without prior political office.
A Southerner and slaveholder, Taylor prioritized preserving the Union and resisted the expansion of slavery into new territories, urging California and New Mexico to apply directly for statehood. His presidency, however, was cut short after only 16 months when he died of a stomach illness, leaving few accomplishments beyond the Clayton–Bulwer Treaty. He is generally ranked in the bottom tier of U.S. presidents, considered more forgettable than failed.

Notes[]
- In an episode of the Time Squad that parodied the original Scooby-Doo cartoon series, the Time Squad went back to the days of President William Howard Taft, who claims that the White House (which has been reduced to a decrepit state) is haunted by the ghosts of former commanders in chief. They investigate and fight a zombie Zachary Taylor, vampire Benjamin Harrison, and Frankenstein-esque James Buchanan, and discover Taft's plot to keep Woodrow Wilson from running for President which gets Taft arrested.
