Origin[]
He worked for his uncle, Bill Hugson, at Hugson's Ranch where he also lived.
He first met his distant cousin, Dorothy Gale, when he picked her up at Hugson's Siding in a carriage pulled by Jim the Cab-Horse. On their way to the ranch, there was an earthquake and they fell into a crack in the earth. Along with Eureka the cat, they fell for a very long time and landed in the Land of the Mangaboos. The Wizard of Oz also arrived there, and the Mangaboos evicted them from their country.
The travelers took a subterranean journey through the Valley of Voe, were briefly imprisoned in the Land of Naught, and encountered a cavern full of Dragonettes. Eventually they came to a dead-end cavern, where Ozma of Oz used the Magic Belt to bring them to the Land of Oz.
In the Emerald City, the Wizard was invited to stay in Oz, but Dorothy, Zeb, and their animals decided to return home.
